Covered Facilities Under EEOICPA

If you or a loved one worked at a Department of Energy site or in the uranium industry and were exposed to radiation, uranium, or other hazardous materials, you may be eligible for support through EEOICPA or RECA. These programs may provide access to medical benefits, in-home care, or financial compensation. What does “Covered DOE Facility” mean?

A covered Department of Energy facility is a worksite recognized under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA), a federal program established in 2000 to support energy workers impacted by occupational exposure during the Cold War era and beyond. Many individuals working at DOE and contractor sites were exposed to radiation, uranium, beryllium, or other hazardous substances, sometimes in very small amounts over time.
Today, hundreds of facilities across nearly every state are recognized under EEOICPA. Being listed is an important starting point, but it is only one part of eligibility. Factors such as your employer, job role, and dates of employment also help determine whether benefits may be available.
